It is believed that when Lord Shiva was going to Mountain Kailash with the dead body of Mata Sati and Vishnu through his Sudarshan Chakra on dead body. After that body of Mata Sati broke into many parts. Shaktipeeths of Mata were established wherever her body parts fell. Sati Mata's eyes fell on Naini Lake.
