In the temple, Lord Shiva is worshiped as Kandolia deity. This religious place offers a panoramic view of the great Himalayan peaks and the Gangavarsune valley.

The Kandolia deity is the favored "goril deity" of the Dungariyal Negi caste of the Champawat region. This area is full of natural beauty, dense trees of high pine, deodar, oak, burans, kaphal etc. A beautiful park and sports complex are also located near this temple. There is a religious belief that many years ago a young woman from Kumaon was married to the Dungariyal Negi caste in Pauri village. After marriage, the girl brought her Ishta Devta in a kandi (small basket). Since then these deities of Kumaon came to be known as "Kandolia Devta" and their worship was also started in Pauri village.

It is believed that later the gods came in the dream of a person from the village and ordered that my place be made at a higher place. After this, the deity Kandolia was installed on the hill above the town of Pauri. Since its inception, the Kandolia temples became famous as the god of justice. In the year 1989, Padmendra Singh Negi, Prithvi Pal Singh Chauhan and Surendra Naithani, residents of Pauri village, started the tradition of worshiping in the temple of Kandolia Devta duly, since then every year there is a three-day worship. In this three-day event, hundreds of devotees come here to ask for prayers, and on completion of many wishes, they raise the hour, the umbrella etc.

How was the name Kandolia temple named "Kandolia"?

It is said about the Kandolia temple that the ancestors of the Dungariyal Negi caste requested the Goril deity to take up residence at this place, who they brought with them to Pauri village. The people of Pauri village brought their Ishtadeva to Kandi due to their old age. Previously, he had established his Ishta Dev at Panchayati Chowk in Pauri village, but due to its depth, the "Goril Devta" asked him to establish himself at the summit.

After this, the Ishta Devta was established on the top peak of Pauri Nagar and the deity started to be worshiped as the local Kshetrapala. It is said that the Ishta Devta of Pauri village was brought to Kandi at this place, hence the Ishta Devta of Pauri village came to be known as "Candolia Devta". After some time the surrounding area also came to be known as "Candolia". In the local populace, Kandolia deity is worshiped as Bolanda deity. The most important thing is that whenever the Kandolia deity realizes an event or disaster, the Kandolia deity warns the townspeople by making a sound in the whole city.
